M81 and M82 in Ursa Major by 12GSuper M81 and M82 in Ursa Major by 12GSuper
Ok... My first attempt (that I'm showing you) at deep sky imaging with my new scope.

This is M81 and M82 in Ursa Major (typing that too often). This was made possible by the expert help from my beautiful assistant Danny, who kept me warm with jokes while we both froze half to death.

No tracking kit used. THAT'S RIGHT, hand tracked!! Both Danny and I operated the slow motion controls at near sidereal rate while the other was operating the remote on the camera.

Not much colour due to short exposures.

103 Lights at 5 seconds
27 darks
Stacked in DSS

ISO 6400
Skywatcher 200p Explorer
EQ-5 mount
Hand tracked

Hand tracked...that impressive, seriously. I didn't thought that was even possible!

Yeah... One rotation of the hand controls ever thirty minutes or so. Still have to do the maths.

I'm gonna be building a motor system soon to unlock more of the sky :)

Thanks Greg, it looks a lil over processed because I had to do some faffing as the sky had a nasty haze to it. Had to use some overlays to get the sky darker than the edges of the galaxies.

Totally loving my scope by the way. Unbelievable what you can see on a clear night. Me and a friend went through about 12 Messiers last night!

Really glad you are loving the scope and particularly glad that mount is working for you. I knew that spending just a little bit more and getting it, rather than those other ones was the right thing to do for what you wanted to do with it. I know you would have been really dissapointed with those others. Incidentally, I am in the process of buying a secondhand one as we speak. It has a couple of drive motors already attached so I will be able to do even more images on those rare perfect nights. I'll still use my NEQ6 and telescope for the deep sky stuff and I'll use the EQ5 for widefield images with my other camera. :D

Awesome!

Its a great mount, I'm seriously impressed with stability, so I imagine the NEQ6 must be a total beast.

And thanks again for all the advice, you were totally right. People are getting very tired about saying how glad I am for your advice! Second I get this motor sorted I'm hitting the Horsehead Nebula!

It's really beautiful T! Screw that there isnt much colour it's amazing for a "first" try. Love how you can see the swirl in such great detail and how bright the stars are...makes me wanna see it in real life:iconlovesqueeplz:
You all did an epic job working the scope and doing the tracking. I cant help but laugh at the fact you and Danny did all the grunt work while B pushed the button:D
Really really love it! Keep at it you've already improved so much since your new scope it's amazing. And you all work so well as a team!
All I've left to say is M O R E !!!!!! Wanna see more!:iconbowplz: after all you are the master;)

Hahah B was nowhere to be seen, it got girly and thought it was too cold or something. Was a real shame, we missed him.

I feel I'm learning fast with the scope, its just strange learning different speeds for all the areas of the sky, these were easy to follow, the Orion neb I shot tonight was a nightmare to to track for some reason 150 pics and only 30 good, where as this was 303 pics and 103 good :S strange :D

I'll be taking more, don't you worry!!
